David B. Barton | Real Estate Agent | Time Real Estate & Development

Accruing more than 40 years of professional experience, David B. Barton has excelled in the construction industry—serving as a concrete contractor, Barton Curb and Landscape, LLC since 1983. In this role, he managed construction crews specializing in concrete work, which has led to him becoming a highly sought-after figure in the field, with many seeking his assistance to acquire properties and renovate them. Understanding the potential of the real estate industry, he became a licensed real estate agent in Utah in 2004. He specializes in selling commercial, residential as well as property management.  He has developed several Utah subdivisions both Utah and Salt Lake Counties.

Launching his career selling computers in the 1970s, he has consistently stayed current with his technical skills. A master of architectural visualization and website design, Mr. Barton also creates three-dimensional renderings for construction companies, allowing contractors and planners to view accurate and visually compelling representations of their projects to enhance their sales pitches. He handles plan markups and permits and acts as project manager coordinating inspections. He also creates and maintains the websites for numerous companies, professionals and even his class website where he also coordinates and oversees his high school class reunions and related events.

Mr. Barton grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he fostered his indomitable spirit and was constantly inspired by his mother, Marge Barton, a former model, gymnast, and skier who maintained her faith and strength in the face of numerous trials caused by multiple sclerosis and the betrayal from the love of her life. To withstand the turbulence of his family life, caring for his mother during her illness and his father leaving the family in the aftermath of it, he sought solace and focus on the football field and track in high school.

He started playing varsity football as a 15 year old sophomore. He quickly proved himself in this sport, becoming the leading rusher in many regular season games—and most importantly running 69 yards and scoring the winning touchdown with only 30 seconds left in his high school state championship game. He received the Most Valuable Player trophy in the pep rally the following week. He secured a full-ride scholarship at Brigham Young University initially in football but later excelled by taking state in the low and high hurdles and also securing a full ride track scholarship. In addition, his excellence in sports throughout his early years has led to invitations to speak at various sports and youth groups; he later served as a coach and positively inspired numerous young people. Reflecting on his grand achievements as an athlete, Mr. Barton considered it all as a tribute to his mother, who was wheelchair-bound; his life philosophy to “Never give up” is an extension of the resilience and determination he learned from her.

As a testament to his journey, Mr. Barton wrote an account of his young life, “Dealing With Goliath: A Test of Faith and Endurance,” whose publication was encouraged by sportswriters who recognized the compelling narrative of his family life. The book explores his inspirational family story—which included nine siblings, heartbreak, tragedy, and triumphs—which he currently strives to develop into a screenplay, anticipating its potential as a successful film.

Looking toward the future, in addition to spending lots of time with his wife, Janice, four children, seven grandchildren, and three step-grandchildren, he aspires to travel extensively, especially to national parks across the country. He deeply appreciates exploring the history and lifestyles of people from diverse cultures. Outside of his primary endeavors, Mr. Barton has been extremely civically involved, engaging in volunteer work for his church and facilitating volunteer efforts for post-hurricane cleanups.
